紅葉と
心の涙
ほろ苦い
Like the autumn leaves
The tears flowing in my heart
Taste so bittersweet

How long has it been since I submitted something to the literature section???
We were writing Haiku in Japanese class today and I'm actually quite pleased with what I came up with, so I thought I'd share. The English translations remain as true as possible to the original without sacrificing the form of haiku (5,7,5 beats)
For those who can read the original Japanese, the reading for 紅葉 is こうよう.
The image I had in my head was that although the changing colour of the leaves in autumn is a beautiful and precious moment, it's also very sad because it is indeed a symbol of death at the same time. Life is full of these bittersweet realities.
Edit: I thought maybe it would be nice for people who can't read Japanese to be able at least to have the sound, so here it is in romaji;
kouyou to
kokoro no namida
horonigai
